Updated 1st April 2020

In light of developments surrounding the management and containment of the spread of COVID 19 and the Government’s announcement, we would like to assure you that we will continue to operate to the best of our abilities within the parameters set by the HSE and the Irish Government. Obviously the key focus from the state is to curtail the spread of the virus and minimise risk to all citizens. We will seek to abide with this policy, however you need to be aware of the following:

  • While the office is temporarily unoccupied, a staff member is still contactable on our office number and e-mail during normal office hours.
  • In place of face-to-face meetings, we will be employing remote technology and asking that you phone/email and use your TCAS student portal for the foreseeable future to maintain appropriate levels of communications and contact as required.
  • Student accommodation staff have the full capacity to work from home and have the systems in place to ensure we maintain high-quality work and effective communication internally and externally if this is required
  • We have cancelled house inspections / site walks / non urgent maintenance tasks and will act as best practice guidance advises.
  • We will respond to emergency maintenance issues in conjunction with our contractors. However, we would seek your understanding that non-emergency matters will be dealt with in the best way possible that avoids creating risks for people.

Thank you for your support and we urge all our students to adhere to the Government and HSE guidelines at this time and as the situation develops.

Tips for Living Away From Home.

  • Be Responsible and Keep Safe - you are now 100% responsible for your own safety. Do not walk home alone after dark, stay with your friends, secure your doors and windows, do not invite people you do not know into your property.
  • Do what you enjoy - join campus groups that are affiliated with what you love, whether it is playing sports, creating art, or making music. College is a great opportunity to develop what you love and most of it is FREE.
  • Your friends become your family - so choose friends who will help and support you, but who will be fun to hang out with too.
  • Make healthy choices - there’s also no one looking over your shoulder making sure you don’t eat pizza for breakfast each morning. Take the initiative, do a weekly shop, prepare meals, eat a balanced diet and exercise. Try to get a good night’s sleep on a regular basis. University students have a lot of stress, and these actions will help you stay healthy and happy.
  • Get the Balance Right - you are now juggling study, independent living and your new found freedom.........get the balance right so you can maximize this great time in your life.
  • Stay connected to home - talk to family and friends on a regular basis. They want to hear how you’re doing at school so make it a regular habit to connect with loved ones.
  • Take Time for yourself - listen to what your body and head is telling you, if you need support it's available and free.
  • Ask for help if you need it - this adjustment isn’t always easy, but help is available. If you’re struggling with loneliness or emotionally, talk to a counsellor or friend. If academics are harder than you thought, look for a tutor or speak to your professor about extra help. For issues with your accommodation you can contact the Dunaras office, for study or stress issues NUIG Accommodation and Welfare offers excellent support services for FREE.

We will be undergoing a refurbish upgrade programme in some of the apartments in Dunaras Village this summer 2020. We will be open for business as normal and apologise for any inconvenience in advance. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
